Tux Paint 0.9.11 released!2003 Jun 17 (Tue), 10:46
Bill Kendrick writes:
It's been nearly FOUR months, but Tux Paint 0.9.11 has been released!

For those who don't feel like downloading the tarball, if you've already got Tux Paint downloaded via CVS, just do a "cvs update" to get the latest changes from this evening.

Any upcoming changes/bugfixes in CVS will end up becoming the future 0.9.12 release. Changes are listed in the changelog, here: Enjoy!

Toyama Shin-ichi also wrote that you can grab RPMs for this new release here.

It should be noted that Tux Paint recently had it's 1st birthday (on June 14th). Happy birthday, Tux Paint!

Jesse Andrews (project manager for Tux Typing) has a Theming HOWTO for creating themes (alternative language ones or otherwise) in Tux Typing 2.

Those interested in localizing Tux Typing 2 into their native language should check out this HOWTO!

There was a rather glowing review on Newsforge today concerning Tux4Kids, OSEF and other educational Open Source and Free-Software applications. If you haven't had a chance yet to read it, I would recommend it highly.

One item of interest here is that Robin 'Roblimo' Miller (the author of this article) was actually doing this review of a Knoppix-based, educational Linux CD-ROM produced by OSEF and handed out at the Linux World Expo 2003. On this CD-ROM is a totally new version of Tux Typing taken from the developmental CVS branch.

Tux Typing's developmental branch is headed up by the new Tux Typing project manager, Jesse Andrews, and will eventually become Tux Typing 2.0. In this branch you will find new support for TTF fonts and non-western character sets, an improved tutorial mode that teaches proper finger placement, and a port of Bill Kendrick's "Tux of Math Command" engine into the Tux Typing framework!

Jesse Andrews is currently planning a developmental release of Tux Typing sometime this month, but you can already access this new and drastically improved branch through Tux Typing's CVS on SourceForge. Simply follow the instructions for anonymous access here using the module name 'tuxtype2'.

Tux4Kids Mailing List Problems2003 Jan 23 (Thu), 12:53
Boy, I've just got no good news lately! (well, we are at LWE in NY courtesy of OSEF.org, so that's good)

Last night we had some sort of problem with our mailing list manager at the Tux4Kids dev server (Tux4Kids.net). This resulted in most if not all mailing lists becoming unreachable.

We are still looking into the problem, and will post news once we've figured out what went wrong and have fixed everything.
Again, thanks for your patience - Criswell

We've now upgraded our existing web-site engine to SNH.engine. There may be some pages which have not been ported completely to this new engine, and the engine itself may still have a few kinks to be worked out, so please bear with us during this transitory phase! Thanks
