Summary
The chat began with a discussion between David Marshman (BeOS release manager) and Sam Hart
about the following topics:
- BeIDE project file inclusion in the official Tux Typing CVS. David said
that he would post the files on his web-site.
- Mac OS X port is waiting on SDL_image (which is apparently causing some trobles on MacOS X)
- Tux Typing could really use some more BeOS testers (heck, it could use more testers overall ;-)
- Talked about a possible new educational racing game where the player has to answer questons in order
to steer the car. It could be a shape to word regonition game, where the car moves towards objects, and the player
must select the word for the object from a list of possible words to "steer" the car away from the object.
Then Frank Ellis and Jacob Grieg showed up and we discussed:
- TuxReader and "Catch the Goblin" (working title).
- Potential porting problems of TuxReader (such as the use of Festival which may or may be
available for non-Unix OSes, and the possiblity of using Qt's QFileDialog and what that would
mean to a BeOS port).
- We talked more about Tux4Kids, what its goals are, and what it means to schools.
- There was some discussion about "Free-Software", "Open-Source", what their differences are
(superficially) and what they can mean to schools.
Finally, Aaron Chomjak joined and we discussed some Tux4Kids administrative/organizational topics:
- Discussion of which state to start the non-profit organization in
- Board of Director and Executive administration procedures
- Possible financing
- Clarification of the goals of Tux4Kids (clearing house versus development)
- We have a nice logo ;-)
