Noink Developer Information

Noink is an open-source/free-software project. It is published under the GNU GPL.

It originally started as a simple suite of scripts to power the web-site, Geekcomix.com but has since evolved into a more general web-content server. Currently, in addition to powering several web-sites, it serves as backend content systems for many small business Intranets.

At version 1.0.0, we decided to take Noink in a new direction, and aim more at moving its functionality into a library to allow for more modularity and extensability. This was motivated largely due to the introduction of several external Noink modules such as noNews.

We are always looking for developers and testers to assist us in making it a better application. At present we really need developers, testers, and documentation writers. If you are interrested in helping with the development of Noink, then please contact one of the following persons.

Project Manager:
Sam "Criswell" Hart
General Development:
Jacob Greig

Noink Developer Resources

The Noink project is hosted here at SourceForge. Because of the good folks there, we have a wide range of tools available for development. Here are but a small sampling of those available which we use:
  • Noink News: Here is where you will find all the latest news items relating to the Noink project.

  • Bug Submission/Tracking: If you are a tester, this is where you can submit bugs. If you are a developer, feel free to browse these listed bugs and see if you can resolve them.

  • Mailing Lists: Noink has two mailing lists available, one for developers and one for announcements. The developer one is for those interrested in assisting with the project by contributing code or finding bugs. The announcement one is a very low traffic, moderated list for Noink related announcements.

  • CVS: The source code for Noink is stored in the CVS at SourceForge. It can be obtained (anonymously) and tracked here. Some links relating to CVS are:
    • Open Source Development with CVS by Karl Fogel is an excellent book on CVS. It can be purchased here, and selected chapters (covered by the Gnu GPL) can be found here.

    • SourceForge has a nice HOWTO on CVS as it pertains to SourceForge's repository. They also have a FAQ.
