Okay, I'm sure you know that this site is essentially dead. I may or may not bring back a new Vidiot's Club in the future.... I don't know right now.
Please check out the new <> main page to see what's going on now.

Well... forgive me the problems and lack of software maintenance (and give the rest of the crew a round of applause for their efforts in keeping this site breathing while I was gone).
As you may or may not know, I have been out of town for around a month. During this time I was in an accident with a semi-truck (was pushed over a cliff above an open-pit mine.... very scary stuff, but I survived with general aches and pains ).

It looks like Microsofts X-Box won't be the only PC turnned game console on the market.
In a review by C Net it suggests the small company won't be able to compeate against larg companys.
Maybe yes maybe no.... Game boxes are upgraded by buying a whole new box.
Brand loialty dosn't last long. Each new generation must BUY users.

Microsoft Shopping Spree

Just read in the latest issue of The Official Playstation magazine that Microsoft has been shopping for gaming companies. They have reportedly propositioned Square, Capcom, Activision, and Namco to name a few.
If they were to purchase one or more of these companies, you can be certain that any further games made by them would not be made for competing systems (read as "PS2", "N64", and "Dreamcast" for consoles and "Linux" on the PC front).

Alice is back in Wonderland, and is she pissed. Rogue Entertainment strikes out this Fall with American McGee's new rendition of the Carrol tales. Transport yourself back to the world of odd creatures and magical growth potions. Only, leave all of your Disney ideals behind, and prepare for a grotesque shooter. Mind you, even though the game is built on the Quake III engine, it isn't all a killing spree. Prepare for puzzles and illusions. One minute you may be chasing the White Rabbit, the next you'll be watching the room expand and break apart in front of you, and your last could be bloody in the hand of the Jabberwocky or the blade of the Mad Hatter. Either way you cut it, this isn't going to be a normal acid trip. The game is set in 3rd Person, not 1st, so you'll also be able to see the emotions of your character. (I personally see it as being very close to Tomb Raider, with a gothic twist, and none of the climbing around.) So wet your senses in American's new "Alice". It's due out this fall, and unfortunately it's going to only be for Win95. Although, you never know when Linux is going to prevail against all odds. Here are three links:

TuxKart for Linux
| Linux

Steve Baker, creator of the phenom engine in the /not-quite-a-game-yet/ game Tux: A Quest for a Herring, has just released another work-in-progress starring Tux, called TuxKart. This one is a 3D cartoonish racer (ala MarioKart, Chocobo Racing, and the like). The progress on the game thus far is actually quite top notch.... just take a gander at the screenshot page to see how much of the game is done. Downloaded it myself, and, asside from the same compilation problems I had with Tux:AQFH, it ran beautifully on my Matrox. |

SoF Test Preview at LinuxGames

Just read Matt Matthews (so nice, he was named twice ;) preview of the Linux version of Loki's Soldier of Fortune. You can read the preview, here. All in all, SoF looks pretty good to me. My problem with it is that my personal system plays the demo entirely too poorly (Voodoo 2 w/ 12Megs RAM and 300 Mhz AMD K6-2). If the final release doesn't perform better, I probably wont get it until I get better hardware... (donations, anyone? ;) |
