Linux and Open Source software is constantly evolving. New bugs and holes are found and fixed constantly. This is good thing in that an up-to-date Linux system can be quite secure. But it is a bad thing if you do not keep up on the upgrades.

Be sure to watch the security lists associated with your distribution or Unix flavor of choice:

Also, monitor those pertinant mailing lists associated with critical software on your system. Running Apache? Get on an Apache list. SAMBA a critical part of your infrastructure? Get on a SAMBA list.
