UNIX01/Places To Find RPMs

Classnotes | UNIX01 | RecentChanges | Preferences

Bearing in mind that deviating too much from your vendor's RPM-base is a sure-fire way to descend into "Dependency Hell", here are some great links to find RPMs:

  • http://rpmfind.net/ - This is the "classic" RPM repository. It generally contains RPM-backups of every major RPM-based distro, as well as experimental RPMs from distro vendors (e.g., Mandrake Cooker) and RPMs made by application authors. It is searchable, contains archives of older RPMs, and is very extensive.

  • http://freshrpms.net/ - Generally considered more "bleeding edge" than other repositories. Using this source too often when unexperienced can quickly lead to broken systems. That being said, they have great resources for setting up APT under an RPM-based system.
